GAUGE:
11 sc = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. NOTES:
1. Cowl is worked in rnds. At the end of each rnd, sl st to join last st to first st. Turn work at the beg of each rnd.
2. If you prefer, Rnd 1 can be worked as a row and then joined into a rnd. This is an easy way to beg without twisting the foundation ch.
3. To work Rnd 1 as a row, leave a yarn tail and ch 67, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. At the end of the row, join the last st to the first with a sl st.
COWL
Ch 66. Taking care not to twist the ch; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around; join with sl st in first sc - 66 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), turn, dc in each sc around; join with sl st in top of turning ch.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each dc around; join with sl st in first sc.
Repeat Rnds 2 and 3 until piece measures about 10 in. (25.5 cm) from beg.
Fasten off. FINISHING
Weave in ends.
