Visit to the temple

Last week I visited Ganesh temple. When I left the house I did not have my periods but when I was in the temple, I doubted that I got my periods. When I came home I realized my doubt was true. My MIL wants me to do some kind of havan because I visited temple While I was in my periods.
I visited temple unknowingly, If I had known about it I would have never visited temple.
but anyways what is the reason of not visiting temple during periods?

I have not heard of any havans to be done for this. It was unknowing and that is okay.
The reason I was told by my parents of not visitng temple in menses is we throw lot of impurities out from our body and we want to keep the temple pure.

Dear Jampatil,
It is said that we have energy rings around us. And we energize those rings by our pujas, and going to temples and all. When we have periods the energy rings are also charged negatively. That makes us weak. That is why we are asked to abstain from going to temple or do pujas on those days.

What ever you have done is not your fault. So there is no need to worry. Still if you have any worries, just do a small puja to the lord. Gods never punish us.
