I prefer not to use chemicals on my silverware or idols as chemicals leave scratches and loose shine.Use good quality toothpaste for cleaning silverware. Apply toothpaste and use soft tooth brush or nail brush to reach the corners.

I also prefer not to use chemicals on my silverware or idols as chemicals leave scratches and loose shine.Use good quality washing powder for cleaning silverware. Don't use water, take washing powder-dry in your hand and take ur silverware and clean silverware with this dry washing powder .This method was told by a silver jeweller and i have cleaned my silver jewellery with this and now my silver jewellery is shining.

Hi all,
Even Vibhuthi or Bhasmam, the ash powder we get in the temples can be used to clean silver articles and ornaments. Just scrub the idols with the powder to remove the dirt. I have done it many a time.
Later you can soak it in diluted lime juice or tamarind water and then wash it off. You can get the articles new and clean.

Take a big stainless steel wide-mouthed vessel. Fill it half with water. Allow it to boil. Meantime, collect all the silver pooja items, and intricate silver items which has oxidised. Tear a sheet of silver foil (used to pack food) into pieces. When water boils, add 2 tablespoons of cooking soda and the torn foils alongwith the silver items. Let it boil for 5 minutes. When cool, take out and wash as usual with a dish-cleanser or pitambari. Use a toothbrush for intricate designed silver items. Your silver items will sparkle as new and this is an easy method also because you can clean many items in one stroke.
