August 09 Freedom COntest: Do gays in india really enjoy freedom ?
It is said that freedom is birth right of every individual but do you think Gays in India enjoy freedom ? As we the normal individuals are the once who are responsible for not allowing them a normal life .
Nature is unjust with those who cannot call themselves either as male or female but according to me , we the normal individuals are more unjust than nature with such individuals ( GAYS ) In this articles I will be putting my view point on how the life of Gays has become curse in India. In India Gays mainly earn their livelihood through begging. They drape themselves in Saris & than sing , dance & beg but why Gays earn only by begging ? Gays are not mentally challenged nor they are physically handicap, So why they do not take up some other work which is of some status & repute ? The answer to the above question is that we have made such norms in our society which do not respect homosexuals because of these norms Gays have to take up the profession of a beggar.
In India a major percentage of beggars are Gays. Gays in order to get money , irritate people , especially young men , children , pregnant women & newly married couples & railway passengers. They pass vulgar comments to males , harass pregnant women & children & irritate newly married couples. People either due to sympathy towards Gays or due to fear that the Gay will curse them. They give some charity to the Gay. Now if we observe carefully , we will see a vicious cycle of begging , because of social norms Gays in India are uneducated & unemployed, so to get their daily bread they beg & people either due to pity or due to fear of sin give them money. Since Gays get money easily trough begging they do not want to take up some other work & uplift their status. In fact in some parts of India there is lot of crime being done by Gays , there have been cases where in Gays have kidnapped young boys & after operating them surgically they made them Gays & than forced them to beg along with them. Not only this there have been instances where normal educated but unemployed men in the guise of gay started begging thinking that gays get beg easily.
Nature has just made them but according to me the society is responsible for the vulnerable life the Gays live. If in India we had laws & norms which allow them to get educated & employed than they do not have to beg but since we do not accept such people they eventually have to beg & because they get money easily through begging the Gays are not motivated to do anything else & do not wish to improve their social status too. Thus our society is more unjust then nature with Gays .However as a good social human being we should take this as a serious social problem because if we want to eradicate ' BEGGING & BEGGARS' from India we have to change the social status of Gays since they constitute a major percentage of beggars in India.
So friends take a pledge that from today onwards we will treat Gays as normal human beings & there by help them to live a normal life .

Dear Moksha
You have pointed a very important issue. Every human being has right to live their way as far as they are not nuisance to anybody.
We have to change Indian lawas but at the same time change peoples attitude towards homosexuals.

Moksha, You have pointed important issue. It is scary in Mumbai when gay beggars come to your taxi and harrass you. We just give them soe money or walk away and ignore them, later on complaint about this issue. We need to act on it.
They have right to study and get gainful employment.
As Misty said our society need to change their view point.

You are absolutely right..I am not sure if u are aware of this, but some NGOs have come up for the upliftment of such people..they impart employment skills and in one of the regional channels some months back there have been adv when they show gay people as successful cooks, dancers and so on..

Your lines..."In India Gays mainly earn their livelihood through begging. They drape themselves in Saris & than sing , dance & beg but why Gays earn only by begging ? "...
It appears to me you are confusing between 2 different sects of people.
Also I am not sure of your source to claim that in India a major percentage of beggars are gay! how did you arrive at this conclusion?
This is a good writeup about beggars in general than about gays i think. interesting topic to discuss.

dear moksha,a nice writeup with a grip on the subject.yes, gays have to hide their identity because they are not yet accepted by the society.we do not find gays only as beggers.they are between us also, working with us.they not only earn their living by dancing, they can reach highest posts and we will not know the realiality.in fact, the gays dancing on roads in sarees have spoilt their reputation because of their behaviour.dont you see their abbusive acts and language if you refuse to give them money?when they enter our homes,we try to send them away by giving their demandes amount.if not so,they lift their sarees and start dancing????what is this?this is the actual reason why they are not getting due respect,

Moksha, nice write up.
Why gay beggars have right to harrase poeple with their actions and bad words?
Would you keep quiet if non-gay beggar comes and curse you and show you his private parts in public?

Thanks for commenting
Dear tulsi ,
but tell me why gays have to do all that ? This is all because we do not treat them as normal human beings ..if our society & government give special attention & privilidge to such god made individuals than surely gays will not do so. I mean to say if the govt provide them with jobs & other facilities .................

Moksha, Gays are looked down in India by some people in our society but there are gays working in reputed firms, in reputed positions.
You are mixing gay rights with gay beggars. It does not give them right to torture general public.

It is true that gays work in organizations
I agree that many gays work in big organizations but tell me do they reveal their actual identity before getting the job .....do you think if a gay tells the employer that he is a gay , will the employer give him the job although the gay is intelligent & able to accomplish the assigned task ?
I personally know of a person who was homosexual , the person's parents kept that fact hidden & grew the child as normal child but tell me how many parents do like ........? However if our society accepts homosexuals as normal human beings than i think soon no parent whose child is homosexual will hide it .
There is also one major problem in rural areas that as soon the gays come to know that a homosexual child is born in a particular family they come & take away the child . The parents have no other option & they have to give the child to gays because of social stigma .........
Any ways in sanskrit it said ' mundae mundae matri bhinna " meaning as many people ..as many brains & as many opinions ..so that is my view point ....every individual is free to share their opinion & view point .
